Mathematical AI and Digital Privacy
Speaker: Shui Yu (University of Technology Sydney, Australia)
Date and Time: Feb 14, 2025, 10:30-11:30am.
Place: 9001.
Abstract of the Talk:
Artificial Intelligence is a leading topic in both academia and industry. However, we do not have a decent theoretical understanding of the various perspectives of AI, such as the deep learning models, datasets, optimization, and so on. As a matter of fact, we are at the doorstep of the theoretical development of AI. In this talk, we firstly present some challenges of AI from a theoretical perspective, and then we introduce the promising mathematical tools to serve the challenges. Finally, we present some existing efforts in mathematical AI for communications and computing. We hope and believe the talk will shed light on the promising field for an interested audience.
Digital privacy is an unprecedented problem for human society, and we are at the doorstep of the phenomenon. In this talk, we firstly report our understanding of the current status and spectrum of digital privacy. Secondly, we present the essential challenges in the field based on our understanding, also include some of our effort and targets. Finally, we share the promising directions in our minds, aiming to work together with interested colleagues and friends to explore the uncharted land of digital privacy.

A glimpse into the mathematical universe of Srinivasa Ramanujan
Speaker: Atul Dixit (Associate Professor, IIT Gandhinagar)
Date and Time: Feb 6, 2025,3:30pm
Abstract of the Talk:
Srinivasa Ramanujan is generally considered to be the harbinger of India’s contribution on the world stage in Mathematics in the post-historic period. A pure mathematician of the first order, as G. H. Hardy put it, Ramanujan made monumental contributions in number theory and analysis, more specifically, in analytic number theory, special functions, q-series and theory of partitions. This talk is focused on some of the brilliant breakthroughs and the giant leaps of imagination that Ramanujan made resulting in the fabulous advancement of Mathematics. We will also discuss some aspects of his life as well as certain incidents which have had a profound impact on the contemporary mathematicians as well as those that came later.
Biography of the speaker:
He likes to work in the areas of Mathematics developed by Srinivasa Ramanujan. He is a recipient of Swarnajayanti Fellowship (2022-2027) and 2021 Gábor Szegö prize from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, USA. He was elected as a member of the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) for a period of five years. He is an editor of several reputed journals and has advised multiple PhD and Post-doc students.
